Comic-Con Geek Week - Inspired by a Comic Book

One more day left in this challenge! Today's theme is "inspired by a comic book." I haven't really been reading any comics recently. I read some of The Walking Dead and used to read some of the Sonic comic books when I was younger, but I haven't ever really gotten too heavily into comics.

At least I haven't been too into mainstream American comics like Batman or Iron Man. I used to read some graphic novels and manga books when I was in middle and high school. One of my favorites is Gundam Wing.

Gundam Wing was also made into an anime cartoon series, which became very popular. I think it helped make all Gundam series more popular in America! But Gundam Wing is still one of my favorite anime shows. It has interesting characters, kickass Gundams, and a pretty intense story.

There are five main Gundams that I chose to portray (from left to right) Shenlong, Sandrock, Wing Gundam, Deathscythe, and Heavyarms. I decided to keep them in that order on my nails as well. Deathscythe is my favorite of the bunch, followed by Wing Gundam and Sandrock. Since I'm not a huge fan of Heavyarms or Shenlong, they got the tiny pinkie and the difficult-to-photograph thumb!

To paint the Gundams, I freehanded the designs like usual. I started off by painting each nail with China Glaze White on White. I then started to construct each Gundam's face with yellow, silver, red, green, and black nail art polishes. It was just a lot of tedious trial and error until I got them to look how I wanted.

They probably all look the same to anybody that's not really into the series, but that's understandable since the Gundams as a whole are very different but the faces tend to be very similar. The main differences are what I call the "Gundam boomerang" on their foreheads.

They're far from perfect, but I like how they turned out! Once again, I got some smears when I applied the topcoat, but I can live with it. Don't forget to check out the other bloggers who are participating in this challenge!

  1. I. Love. This. ^_^

Gundam Wing is still one of my all time favorite anime shows ever! I was always a Duo fan, long live Deathscythe!

Very cute, I wouldn't have thought to put the faces on nails!

  2. Very cute. I didn't notice at first that all the faces were different characters. I am not familiar with the story, as the comics I read were The Archies and Bugs Bunny and that sort. I was never into hero comics but my son was in to anime and manga like DragonBallZ and Yu Gi Oh so I have seen familiar images even if I do not know the characters. I'm pretty sure he watched Gundam Wing as well. It looks familiar. You are very talented to have freehanded that.
