Luck of the Irish - Shamrocks

Almost done with this mini challenge! I think today's theme is an absolute must for St. Patrick's Day. I love how shamrocks look, and I think they make a cute decoration for the holiday on just about everything.

I couldn't really decide on colors for them though. I knew I should make them green, but couldn't choose between dark or light green. I also considering pairing green shamrocks with orange or white to look like the Irish flag, but I just paired it with gold.

I used a pretty ridiculous gold. I wanted to use one of the most flashy yellow gold polishes I own. I used A England Holy Grail (old formula) for that! I love the color, but it can look a bit gaudy at times, so I try to get away with using it for holidays when I can!

I also chose to use a dark green. I think shamrocks are more of a light green, but a brighter green just didn't look too great with gold to me. This green came out looking very dark though, even though I didn't apply too much of it. I used China Glaze Holly-Day.

I started by painting each nail with two coats of polish - Holy Grail for all nails except a Holly-Day accent nail. I then used a medium dotting tool to create the shamrocks. I sort of made four heart shapes for each shamrock, and then connected them in the center. I also added a tiny stem to each one.

I suppose my shamrocks look a bit lopsided and irregular, but I sort of like it! I did the pinkie one first so it's the silliest looking, and I did the accent nail last, so I think it looks the best. I really got the hang of it by the time I finished all my nails!

Check out the shamrock nails from the others below!
