Flip Flop February - Outline

Outline nails are something that I've been meaning to try for some time now. I've been seeing lots of different color combinations and variations of the style, so I wasn't sure what to do for mine.

Then I remembered comic book nails! I think they look like they could also be cartoon nails. They are outlined to look like they're drawn and colored in, and even have a fake glare or shiny spot painted on them. I think it's pretty cute!

Well I decided to try it out myself. I thought red would be a great color for it since it's so bright, and black and white also go well with it. I think it's funny how the glare I painted on is on the side that's usually shadowed in my photos, but at least it's the side of my nails you can see more detail on!

I used Cult Nails Evil Queen and Cherimoya nail art polishes in black and white. I started by painting two coats of Evil Queen on. I then carefully took the black striping polish and painted an outline around each nail. My lines are far from perfect, but I think I got close enough! I then painted lines with the white striping polish to look like a glare.

Cleanup was a bit more difficult than usual. I ended up getting some black on my cuticles and around the nail in general. The black didn't really stain, but it's very pigmented, so when I went to clean up with some acetone, it got into the nooks and crannies of my fingers.

I think they look good for another first attempt though! I'm glad I got to try them out. They really do look like they're from a comic book, and also remind me of Roy Lichtenstein's paintings.

  1. These are brilliant! The 'glare' is making my eyes go funny lol

  2. I really thought that was glare until I read the text! Great job.

  3. The added glare is so awesome!! It makes your nails look super ridiculously shiny!

    1. It does! I probably should have put the thumb one on the other side though. Oh well!

I would love to hear your feedback!
I read every single comment :)
