Day 24: Inspired by a Book

Another inspiration day! Today's theme: inspired by a book. This one was pretty easy for me since I don't have a lot of favorite books. My all-time favorite is Battle Royale by Koushun Takami.

I read Battle Royale for the first time when I was in high school . As you can see below, my copy of the book is a bit beat! It's my most beat up book, so I guess that's how you can tell it's my favorite.

If you look carefully, you can see how the negative space
between the two characters creates a gun!

So I did nails inspired by that book! For those unfamiliar, Battle Royale is actually a pretty twisted book. It's a Japanese novel that's about a group of junior high school students. This group is made up of 42 - 21 guys and 21 girls. The class "is taken to a deserted island where, as part of a ruthless authoritarian program, they are provided arms and forced to kill one another until only one survivor is left standing."

Most of you who haven't read this but are familiar with The Hunger Games are probably thinking it sounds pretty similar! While I do enjoy both, Battle Royale was indeed written first (published 1999, 2003 in English). That doesn't necessarily mean it's better, it's all up to your opinion! I happen to prefer BR.

As you can see, even the book is a bit grim looking, being blood red with dark silhouettes. So I did just that for my nails! I painted them red, and did the designs in black. The middle finger is the "BR" logo, my ring finger is a few of the planes from the formation on the front cover, and my pinkie and pointer are black splatters.

As for my thumb, I painted a hand gun on it. I mentioned with the cover that the space between the two figures creates the shape of a gun - well it's more obvious on the binding of the book since the red and black are reversed.

As for my colors:
  • Jordana - Holiday Red
  • Pure Ice - Black Rage (splatters)
  • Cherimoya - Black (freehand designs)
